The Jerk was a dance craze of the 1960′s. Well it is back again and this time urban youth in Los Angeles are credited with it’s rebirth. Thanks to media like videos, youtube and other social networks these new dances are being done across the country.

Keith Olbermann let’s lose when he airs his ‘Special Comments’ segments. Last night he unleashed on the current version of the senate health care reform bill. To my delight, he even cursed.

He was critical of President Obama and rightfully so. Our president needs to step up and vocally express how he feels about this legislation. He needs to tell Congress just what kind of bill he wants to have come across his desk. Only when Obama helps move this important legislation through Washington, I can stand up and say, “that’s the president that I voted for!”

The Academy of Art University selected seven graduates from the fashion program to debut their Spring 2010 collections at Bryant Park. It was an amazing event. Got some great interviews. Fall is here! New seasons are a great time to change your wardrobe, hair style, and nail polish. This season I am obsessed with three new colors. My first pick is by Opi, ‘Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees’, it is a grey blue color that is great for a fall pedi. Then there’s Chanel, the beauty house that never seems to disappoint. Chanel has two new colors, Jade and Jade Rose that are stunning. Unfortunately, Jade is sold out on chanel.com/makeup. But check your local stores to see if the color is still in stock. If you’re fond of a nude, ballerina type color for your hands, Jade Rose is a great alternative to the Sugar Daddies, Mademoiselles, and Ballet Slippers. But you better hurry up and get it before they’re all gone.

Are You Ready to ShakeOut?

With 37 million people living and working in California, a major earthquake could cause unprecedented devastation. What we do now, before a big earthquake, will determine what our lives will be like afterwards.  With earthquakes an inevitable part of California’s future, we must act quickly to ensure that disasters do not become catastrophes.

The Great Southern California ShakeOut in November 2008 involved nearly 5.5 million Californians through a broad-based outreach program, media partnerships, and public advocacy by hundreds of partners.  In early 2009 the decision was made to hold the drill statewide annually on the third Thursday of October.  With this in mind, the Earthquake Country Alliance has organized the 2009 Great California ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake drill at 10:15 AM on October 15.

A key aspect of the ShakeOut is the integration of comprehensive science-based earthquake research and the lessons learned from decades of social science research about why people get prepared.  The result is a “teachable moment” on par with having an actual earthquake (often followed by increased interest in getting ready for earthquakes).  ShakeOut creates the sense of urgency that is needed for people, organizations, and communities to get prepared, to practice what to do to be safe, and to learn what plans need to be improved.

Not just any drill will accomplish this; it needs to be big.  It must inspire communities to come together.  It must involve children at school and parents at work, prompting conversations at home. It must allow every organization, city, etc., to make it their own event.

The 2009 ShakeOut drill will be the largest preparedness event in U.S. history. To participate, go to www.ShakeOut.org/register and pledge your family, school, business, or organization’s participation in the drill. Registered participants will receive information on how to plan their drill and how to create a dialogue with others about earthquake preparedness. All organizers ask is that participants register (so they can be counted and receive communications), and at the minimum practice “drop, cover, and hold on” at the specified time. It is only a five minute commitment for something that can save your life. It all begins with registering, which is free and open to everyone.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2010

I know that I alluded in the previous post that I was going to Fashion Week in NYC to broadcast. Have have so much to share about this event. But I just need a little time to get the post together…stay tuned.

Here’s a snippet: Seven Academy of Art University graduates debuted their Spring 2010 collections Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Fashion Week in Bryant Park.

I’ve been a fan of Virgin America airline since it’s inception in August of 2007. According to me, it was the best airline for cross country flights from NYC to Cali. The purple and pink lighting, leather seats, touch screen entertainment center, food at your fingertips, etc. Why was Virgin so great? Service! Richard Branson, the owner, has built his brand based on exceptional customer service. Once again, he delivered.

But this past week, I was on a flight from SFO to JFK and found myself in a tizzy. I had to use the bathroom, my dilemma was that the seat belt light was on. There wasn’t any turbulence, the flight attendants were filling out incident reports because a man had fainted in the walkway during the flight. So what was I to do? I hastily unbuckled my seat beat and hurried down the aisle. When I got to the bathroom the head flight attendant, Ting Ting, told me that I could not use the restroom. I told him that I had to use it. He said that if anything happened to me, I would be at fault. I was cool with that because I had to go.

When I came out of the washroom there were at least 5 people in line. Ting Ting began to berate me. Telling me it was my fault that all of these people were in line. He just wouldn’t stop with the comments. I asked him if he gave each of them, including a man holding an infant, a hard time. Then as I was walking back to my seat, Ting Ting gets on the PA system to sarcastically apologize about his tirade. I WAS OUTDONE. And to make matters worse, this representative of Virgin America, follows me to my seat and kneels down to continue to badger me. I asked him if he planned to go to everyone’s seat who was in line for the bathroom and do this. He flung his hand at me and walked off.

So I sat in my seat in utter amazement for the duration of the flight. I was so angry and frustrated, I didn’t know what to do. To add insult to injury, the other flight attendants kept coming and offering me free food, free drinks, and chocolate. Making it evident that they also knew that Mr. Ting Ting was out of line for his comments and actions.

I had to check myself because I didn’t want this incident to over take my emotions, after all I was going to New York to broadcast from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. So I decided to wait to vent, complain, kick and scream until after I was back in San Francisco.

My plan is to call, write, email, twitter, facebook and knock on the door of Virgin America airline until I get an apology and some reason free flights to continue to fly with them.
